something has eluded me during this season of football.
whilst it is definitely uncommon to see red cards in a game (even more so for direct red cards), i am very intrigued by my observation that xabi alonso has been attracting many of those fouls worthy of a red card, be it as a 2nd yellow or a direct red. players on a yellow tend to be more cautious in their tackling, so there’s no reason in think that red cards coming from the 2nd yellow cards are in any way less “reckless” or “significant” than those direct red cards.
what makes players a magnet for such fouls? this is very interesting to think about. but for now, because it is late and i am distracted (this is a passing thought that i just HAD to blog about), i daresay it’s because of the pressure and intensity of the matches AS WELL AS the fact that xabi alonso is a fantastic player. i will come back to think about this in due time; but for now:
