haha, it has suddenly occured to me that this blog has been gathering dust quite tragically.

first, an apology to the few readers/visitors to my blog. i have been devoting attention to my livejournal because of its Features a la friendlocking. wordpress has always been a space for more impersonal discussion and lately, that hasn’t really been possible. this blog is really quite a Privilege, in that sense.

next, an update (till the next time, i guess). the common tests are consuming me, as are recent developments in my personal life. that includes a rejuvenated obsession with billy joel, paolo nutini amongst other musical digressions in life. also “new” is a new weight a new responsibility. i need to look into balancing my life again and moving towards stability especially in the Uncertain Times ahead.

and now, it’s back to standard level mathematics. or what ibo deems as standard level. as far as i’m concerned, it’s a standard too high for me >(

i wish i could be at WWDC – it will be a dream come true to attend it and be a complete geek for a few days. oh, and i really want to go there NOW just to look at this:

this completely random thought came into my head today – and it is extremely interesting so i shall explore the concept here. admittedly, the concept of death has been occupying me for no particular reason. we were on the topic of vocations and this really just screamed into my head. i forewarn you, though: it is not very pleasant reading as it touches on death which is quite a sensitive topic to some.

think about it: for those unfulfilled dreams of perfection, if you never managed to get around to doing it – you now have the chance! if you’re terribly old and wrinkly when you pass away, leave a note in anticipation and ask for botox so you look younger and happier or something. nose still a bit crooked? get a nose job in your death – while it might seem quite redundant since you might eventually be cremated (damn, so wasted), perhaps it’s worth it just for the time you spend in a coffin with the wooden lid up with the world walking around you, separated from you by death and a glass cover. after all, you want people to remember you in the best and most perfect possible way, no? i mean, sure, that means the plastic surgery cannot be so extensive (like giving a man feminine features etc.) but subtle. this will make sure people still recognise you (LOL) and if they have a somewhat sketchy memory of what you looked like, you now look better! isn’t that awesome? their memories of you will be painted over with your new face (assuming only facial plastic surgery unless you want to donate your fats a la fight club by liposuction or something).

it might seem superfluous, but it might just be a winner! this reminds me of plots with a view (a random dvd that i happen to have, it’s this welsh movie about funerals that stars christopher walken). i mean – themed funerals. fulfilling fantasies that you might not have been able to whilst you still breathed. it’s a nice thought, isn’t it? that dreams can still be fulfilled (somewhat) in death! and it’s thanks to these wonderful people. it’d be a really interesting vocation, i imagine.

i mean think about it: the woffles lift on your deceased relative to make sure he/she looks perfect in death? LOL

next season. we’ll gun for that 19th one to maintain our lofty perch above the devils. yes, the reds will soar next season!

i now confess to my massive obsession and addiction to live albums. i honestly think it is the epitome of experiencing something vicariously, even better than the dvds of concerts.

when i talk about live albums, i often refer to John Mayer’s As/Is and Where The Light Is, Eric Clapton’s One More Car, One More Rider, the Eagles’ Hell Freezes Over (not really Live but YEAHHH) and to an extent Train’s Alive At Last.

it is something that i cannot describe – but i am a firm believer that hearing is far better than sight when experiencing something. sure, you need some of sight to imagine the stage layout, the kit, the guitar, the outfit, but when you’re in it just for the music, all you need to do is listen. and that’s what i’m after!

because live performances have that element of unpredictability (albeit lost after several rounds of listening) and those little modifications to the songs that make each of them so enjoyable and different from their studio recordings. i could go on forever about them, especially the amazingly electric live (and recorded) performances of john mayer.

but live performances are still by far the best! not those recorded. i’ve had the privilege of watching tommy emmanuel live in singapore and AAHHH i think i blogged about that before (like my face melting) a few thousand times i fanboyed like mad already and i will not do so anymore. but the banter, the teasing, the riffs all make live performances so much better than the studio recordings.

something has eluded me during this season of football.

whilst it is definitely uncommon to see red cards in a game (even more so for direct red cards), i am very intrigued by my observation that xabi alonso has been attracting many of those fouls worthy of a red card, be it as a 2nd yellow or a direct red. players on a yellow tend to be more cautious in their tackling, so there’s no reason in think that red cards coming from the 2nd yellow cards are in any way less “reckless” or “significant” than those direct red cards.

what makes players a magnet for such fouls? this is very interesting to think about. but for now, because it is late and i am distracted (this is a passing thought that i just HAD to blog about), i daresay it’s because of the pressure and intensity of the matches AS WELL AS the fact that xabi alonso is a fantastic player. i will come back to think about this in due time; but for now:

this is very weird. for the first time, i received a birthday card by post from someone who i do not know. i mean, i have never received a birthday card in the post before, but i am very disturbed by this Sabrina Cheong who sent me a card, knowing my full name and address! I only know one Sabrina and that is not her surname! and there is no corporate letterhead of some sort so i doubt it’s a service of a mailing list or something, this is very strange and disturbing.

what is probably stranger would be the real existence of extremely alike (to the extent that it is creepy) people. or should i say person. in any case, for someone i’ve known for such a short period of time, seeing so much of myself when i am not even looking in the mirror is somewhat unnerving but also (for the lack of a better word) freaking awesome.

it’s like, you know, having a twin that you never had (albeit born further apart and well. you get the hint) AND this is based on character instead of conveniently coincidental clothing choices! (zomg i win at consonance), not just HAPPENSTANCE, you know?

because some times, art defies life and fails to flatter it by choosing to usurp it.
